You go to where you are appreciated not tolerated. The Jets made him a great offer and assured him that he will have the opportunity to start on their team as a QB 1. Not Running back, not designed read options for 5-6 play experiments, and no stringing along on a QB camp battle that was fake from the get go.
The quiet part out loud is Tomlin messed this up for the Steelers and disrespected Fields as a man. Fields in return handled it professionally with grace.
Lots of maturity from him and hopefully him and Glenn can build something wonderful on that Jets team for their fanbase.

2 of 3. The reason Justin Fields was benched after becoming the ONLY STEELERS QUARTERBACK IN FRANCHISE HISTORY to produce
    300 Passing Yards
    50 Rushing Yards
    2 or more Touchdowns
    in a single game...
...was to prevent the QUARTERBACK NEEDY JETS & GIANTS from facing the PENDING FREE AGENT and driving up his value.
Think about it - there's no way in hell Justin Fields would've been benched before facing the QUARTERBACK NEEDY JETS & GIANTS if the Steelers had picked up Fields $25.6 Million 5Th-Year Option.

As a Steelers fan, I think people misunderstand the last seasons QB situation. Fields didn't get benched, he was QB2 from the beginning. Russell (QB1) was dealing with a calf injury that prevented him from starting the first 6-games. Once he was healthy, Russell was put on the field. They both played decent. Of course Justin made the more athletic plays...and of course Russell made the best traditional QB plays. Perhaps Justin was a fit for Arthur Smith's system, but Russell fit the players that was on the Steelers roster, and unfortunately the Steelers roster did not (does not) fit Arthur Smith's system.
I think Justin deserves a new start with REAL money. I wish him all the best until they play the Steelers of course. There is nothing wrong with a man enjoying himself. I don't see anything inappropriate that causes concerns for him or his organization. He should celebrate. He just got paid! Good for him!

Good offensive line and good stable of backs but only one good receiver (but with a good relationship, they'll have to get more weapons in the draft) and a rookie OC. It's not the best situation for Justin but its not a bad one there's a lot of potential but he needs to show he's come a long way running and leading an entire offence.

Me personally I hope he balls tf out and he’s our long term starter because I’m tired of drafting QBs and they all fail. Justin is an elite QB. When Justin left, it became obvious, he has not had a good coordinator or head coach, until Tomlin. They tried to low ball Justin. If he had taken over half the snaps, Steeler would have had to give the Bears a 4th round pick, instead of a sixth round pick. Cheap! Cheap!

The Steelers let him go because their wack azz OC, Arthur Smith didn't want him. The same Arthur Smith that didn't want the Falcons to draft him when he was their HC even though the GM and owner wanted to draft Fields. Smith said he could win with washed up Matt Ryan and that decision caused him to lose the HC job and was the reason Julio Jones wanted out of Atlanta because he also wanted Fields as the QB.
